Philip M. Bryer Jr., 79, of East Bridgewater, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, surrounded by loved ones at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, after a brief illness.
Philip was born Sept. 2, 1931, in Saugus and brought up in Maine, son of the late Evelyn (Matthews) and Philip M. Bryer Sr. He was schooled in Maine, served in the U.S. Coast Guard, and graduated from Maine Maritime Academy. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy during the Korean War and was awarded three service medals while serving on the USS Wisconsin. Philip received an MBA from Boston University and operated a small business in East Bridgewater installing and repairing swimming pools for over 25 years.
He enjoyed playing cribbage and cards with his family and friends and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Philip will be greatly missed by all who have known him. He was the husband of the late Laura (Hersey) Bryer. He is survived by his loving children Mark and Mary Anne Bryer of Columbia, Mo., Steven Bryer of Needham, Deborah and Rob Taylor of Stowe, Vt., Eric Bryer of Taunton, Dawn and John Ainikkal of Milton, Ontario, Canada, and Denise Bryer of Bridgewater; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; his sister, Elizabeth Stewart and her five children; his cousin and close friend, Kenneth Bryer; and several good friends, many at his apartment building.
A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 44 Park Ave., Whitman, Friday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. A reception will immediately follow in the church hall. All are welcome.
