James F. McAvoy '52
James F. McAvoy '52, retired executive director of the National Coal Council, died February 14, 2010 in Kilmarnock, Virginia. After serving in the U. S. Navy, he spent 20 years working at the Newport News Shipyard before moving into public service in Ohio and Washington, D.C. Then he took over as director of the National Coal Council for 16 years before retiring to Northern Neck, Virginina.
He is survived by his wife, Liz, and four daughters and two sons.
