Julian Zuke, Jr. '49


Julian Zuke, Jr., of Middleburg, VA, passed away on May 15, 2011 after a long illness. He was born on March 17, 1928, the son of the late Julius and Mary Zuke of Biddeford, Maine.

Upon graduation from Biddeford High School in 1946, Julian entered Maine Maritime Academy and graduated in 1949. He was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve and a licensed engineer in maritime service. He married Lorraine Valliere in 1951 and that same year was called to active duty assignment aboard the USS Merapi AF-38 supply ship during the Korean War. After serving two years in the Navy, he went on to a successful career in aerospace and defense-related industry before starting his own business representing companies in the aerospace industry marketing new business development with the federal government in Washington, DC. With the passing of his wife of 47 years in 1998 he retired.

He is survived by his sister, Mina Lomac; and his brother, Joseph Zuke, both of Biddeford; his wife, Jacque Dreyer of Middleburg, VA; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Deborah Zuke of Clifton, VA; his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Leslie Zuke of Aldie, VA; and his daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Robert Kline of Round Hill, VA; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be planned at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Middleburg Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 0122, Middleburg, VA 20118-0122.
