Irwin Jackson, 88, of Sarasota, Florida died Sept. 6, 2011.
Following his graduation from Maine Maritime Academy as a member of the Class of 1943-2, Mr. Jackson served in World War II as a Merchant Marine Officer on convoys to Africa and Europe, and as a Naval Officer, specifically as LCVP Boat Group Commander.
Mr. Jackson was the founding member of the Automotive Parts & Accessories Association. He also served as a Manufacturer's Representative for several of the most innovative companies in American retail history, including Wham-O's first Hula Hoop representative on the eastern seaboard. Maine Maritime Academy inducted Mr. Jackson into the Wall of Honor in 1999 noting his professional achievements, distinguished service and charitable activities.
Services will be at a later date. Survivors include wife Genevieve; son Robert of Woodbury, Long Island, N.Y.; step-son Mathew Ruh of Longwood; step-daughter Deirdra Dunn of Columbus, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Jarret, Jessica and Angie.
