JEFFERSON -- Donald D. MacInnis, 78, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully at his home on May 3, 2011, after a long illness.
He was born in Portland on Nov. 18, 1932, the son of Donald D. and Florence E. Reidy MacInnis. He graduated from Cathedral Grammar School and Cheverus High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, Navy Reserves and then graduated from Maine Maritime Academy.
After traveling to many impoverished countries, he was called into the priesthood at Maryknoll Fathers. He was assigned to South Korea where he introduced Marriage Encounter. He later left the priesthood and earned a degree from the U of M in Social Work. He worked at Tri-County Mental Health, Augusta Mental Heath Institute, and the Maine Forensic Service. Before he became ill, he was very involved in the Kairos Prison Ministry.
He is survived by his wife Gail; daughter Anna Marie; as well as step children, Richard Flood and Emily Austin; and grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle and Rian Austin. He also leaves a sister, Mary A. Delaney, a brother, John B. MacInnis, both of Portland; and many nieces and nephews from Maine and Nova Scotia, all of whom he cherished. He we predeceased by his brother, Joseph MacInnis and wife Eilene Peddle from Sydney, Nova Scotia.
A Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Newcastle on May 17, at 10 a.m.
