Ralph C. Bailey Sr. '43-2
        
SACO -- Ralph C. Bailey Sr., 85, of the Heath Road, passed away on Nov. 17, 2009, at the Maine Veteran's Home in Scarborough. He was born in Portland on Nov. 26, 1923, the son of Ralph and Gertrude (Briggs) Bailey. He graduated from Deering High School and Maine Maritime Academy. He served in the Merchant Marines in World War II. For over 30 years, he worked at S.D. Warren, retiring as the head of the Utilities Department in 1979. Ralph enjoyed woodworking and had a knack for making old things new again. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Evelyn; and a son, Leland Plumley. Surviving are his sons, Ralph C. Bailey Jr. of Saco and Gary Plumley of Standish, two daughters, Barbara Lund of Buxton and Rita Hafley of Louisville, Ky.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m., at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco. www.dcpate.com. A committal service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 10 a.m., at Brooklawn Memorial Park, outer Congress Street, Portland.
