Grayson P. Bishop '45

Grayson P. Bishop ’45 died at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, after a long illness. After graduating from MMA, he sailed for five years with United States Lines out of New York City. He then worked for Metropolitan Insurance Company for 25 years, and, later as the tax assessor for the town of Dexter, Maine until his retirement. He owned Bishop Hill and was co-owner of Fairways Knolls Apartments at the time of his death. His best friend, William “Bill” Reed ’45, credits Grayson with saving Bill’s leg. Bill had been in an automobile accident many years ago and had one of his legs shattered by the emergency brake. After several days in the hospital, the doctors thought it best to amputate his leg but Bill’s best friend, Grayson, convinced them to hold off a little longer. Fortunately, the leg improved and healed cementing a longtime friendship even more. Both men lived in Dexter, Maine.

Grayson is survived by his wife of 59 years, June, and a son and a daughter.
