David P. Bicknell '45

David P. Bicknell ’45 died at his home in Rockland on Thanks-Giving Day, November 25, 2010. He did a two-year tour of duty in the Merchant Marine aboard the Roswell Victory and then attended Northeastern University. Later, he joined the family business in Rockland – Bicknell Manufacturing Company and eventually became the sole owner after his father and older brother passed away. He was very active in his community and belonged to many civic organizations. Some were the Rockland Jaycees, the Rockland Rotary Club (where he had 38 years of perfect attendance!), and the Rockland Chamber of Commerce. He was often president or vice-president of the organizations he served. He was “passionate about the coast of Maine” (Portland Press Herald, November 28, 2010), loved sailing, and local maritime history. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Virginia, in 2001. He is survived by three daughters and a son.

Memorial donations may be made to Maine Maritime Academy, Development Office, 101 Leavitt Hall, Castine, ME 04420.
